We are on this list, so read it as an informed participant's view rather than an independent audit. The ranking method is published below so you can weigh it yourself.
One correction worth knowing: TruePoint Laser Scanning is now part of GPRS. Their domain redirects to the GPRS site and GPRS hosts the former TruePoint service pages. Most comparison articles still list them as two independent companies, which makes the market look less consolidated than it actually is.
Ordered by fit for Ohio and Midwest building documentation — the market we serve — not by overall quality. A national provider placed below us on this page may be the better choice for your project; the entries say so where that is true. Four criteria, weighted in this order:
How quickly a crew reaches the site, and whether travel is billed as a separate mobilization. This is weighted heaviest here because it is the single largest cost and schedule variable on a single-building Midwest project.
Whether the provider states a registered accuracy figure and the capture method behind it, rather than describing accuracy in adjectives.
Point cloud only, 2D CAD, Revit at a stated LOD, or all three — and whether modeling is done in-house or subcontracted.
Subsurface utility locating, concrete scanning, UAV, and survey control are separate disciplines. A provider that offers them is not better; it is different, and it matters only if your project needs them.
The bias to account for: we wrote this and we are on it. Claims about other providers are limited to what each publishes about itself, plus the GPRS/TruePoint consolidation we verified directly. Nothing here is a measured head-to-head test, and we have not audited anyone's accuracy claims — including our own competitors' — against field results.
Narrowly: Ohio and Midwest buildings where existing conditions are the project risk. Adaptive reuse, renovation inside occupied space, and documentation that has to become a Revit model quickly. Every major Ohio metro is inside a same-day round trip of our Powell office, which removes the mobilization line item that national providers carry on single-building work.
